Top ten horror movies of all time.

10. Black Christmas-A sorority house that is terrorized by frightening calls and eventually frightening acts. Margot Kidder is the icing on the cake by playing a bratty alcoholic co-ed.

9. Re-Animator-
Bright green goo that re-animates body parts...YES! Oh, and did I mention Jeffery Combs.

8. House of 1000 Corpses-Rob Zombie!! Need I say more. This is Rob Zombie at his best, well before he decided to rehash the same style over and over again. Zombie adds a bit of his humor and of course his wife to this homage to Spider Baby and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

7. Evil Dead II-
This is the film which introduces the famous chainsaw attached to Ash's arm.

6. Rosemary's Baby-

Enough said!

5. Fiend Without a Face-
By far on of the best 50's B movies out there. Brain-shaped monsters that suck the brains out of their victims. The town is terrorized and eventually saved by nuclear power. (of course)

4. Night of the Living Dead-
This is one of the only horror movies to ever scare me. This movie has set the bar and noone has come close to making a zombie movie this good.

3. Friday the 13th 2-
It's no secret that I am completely obsessed with the franchise itself (with the exception of the "re-imagining") but the second is the best film out of the lot. Jason is back and he's looking for revenge! You have the campers and the frisky councilors...and of course Jason sans mask. I think that's the part that scares me...the burlap bag he wears.

2. The Roost-
This is a movie I have just watched and that could be why it made it to the number 2 spot. The Roost is the first first full length venture from Ti West, who recently released The House of the Devil, and I think he really hit it out of the park. The Roost starts like an old midnight movie, even with a Vincent Price type host. The movie itself is about vampire bats that attack a group of young kids. The kids become vampires and turn on each other. The films story is pretty simple, but the way it is executed is genius.

1.Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon-
Shot in Portland this film is both a comedy and a horror movie in one. I saw it about 3 years ago and every time I have nothing to watch this goes directly into the dvd player. In the world of Leslie Vernon supernatural serial killers like Jason, Michael, and Freddy really exist. This is the dream of Leslie and he has a camera crew from a journalism school to document the whole thing. Hands down my favorite horror movie of all time...at the moment.

There is nothing I would rather do than sit down with a good horror movie and a glass of wine. Seriously try to get me out of the house if I find one I haven't seen. These are my top 10 for now...although I'm sure this will change within the week!
Enjoy

Honorable Mentions:
Suspiria, Zombie, Repulsion, Dawn of the Dead(remake), The Howling, The House of the Devil, The Wolf Man, Spider Baby, The Bat, The Silent Scream, Psycho, Dog Soldiers, Silver Bullet, American Werewolf in London, and so on.....

I could play "Stairway To Heaven" on the guitar when I was 14. Jimmy Page didn't write it until he was 28. I think that says a lot.

I have just watched Bad News for the first time in about a year and it never ceases to amaze me. In the tradition of Spinal Tap there is a tour, a camera crew, and a terribly clueless band.

Bad News was created for the British television show The Comic Strip Presents. They went on to play together as a band from 1983-1988. The band toured and released an album, consisting of rock songs and frequent fighting with the band's members. Brian May of Queen produced the record, which included a cover of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody".

Its members were Vim Fuego (aka Alan Metcalfe), vocals and lead guitar (played by Adrian Edmondson); Den Dennis, rhythm guitar (Nigel Planer); Colin Grigson, bass (Rik Mayall); and Spider Webb, drums (Peter Richardson)

I love The Young Ones, The Dangerous Brothers, and Bottom...but nothing compares to Bad News!

I promise even better than Spinal Tap!

I would stalk Bruce Campbell if I wasn't so lazy.

Yes! I would stalk Bruce Campbell if I wasn't so lazy. I believe him to be one of the greatest B movie actors of all time. I actually own a tombstone prop from "My Name is Bruce" (Thanks Tyler). Well now that I think of it Tyler wouldn't tell me where he lives so maybe it's his fault I have never stalked Bruce Campbell. I unthank you Tyler.

Where did the rock n roll horror genre go?

The combination of horror and rock is a match made in heaven...so where has it gone? I blame the rise of indie rock, although I do enjoy my share of wussy pop, I miss the hair metal bands that fought evil or obviously were evil.

Rock n Roll Nightmare starring Thor.
"When the band starts to rock heads start to roll"

Rocktober Blood
"He's back from the dead with a message from hell!"

Trick or Treat appearances by Ozzy Osbourne and Gene Simmons
"What are you afraid of? It's only rock n roll!"

You can do it....MUSIC!

My life lately has consisted of sleep, work, and the gym, needless to say I needed something to liven things up. I remembered all of the 80's movies that had such inspiring and ridiculous montages...I thought I can do this!

I realize that "It's Always Sunny" has beat me to the "punch", but this is the quintessential you can do it song.

I was struggling with this montage, but after some thought, I believe "Thrashin'" is a do it song. 1. It tells you you're thrashin' 2. You're running hot 3. Tearing it up 4. Josh Brolin

Absolutely no explanation needed...

Not an 80's montage, but an unbelievable homage
Orgazmo

The Stargrove theme from "Never Too Young To Die" is my favorite you can do it song...Unfortunately I couldn't find a clip, so if you will bear with me start this at the 3:06 mark. So worth it!

I hope that I have inspired someone to punch, thrash, rip, find glory, be the best, and of course BREAK OUT!

A quick P.S. Kevin Bacon...

Thanks for reminding me Malia!

I sure do hope werewolves don't get famous.

With all of the vampire hubbub I am a bit concerned that werewolves are going to be the next to get popular; therefore making it impossible for them to be my favorite monster. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't mind the wolf to finally get his day in the sun (or moon), but only if it is done in the right way. (Taylor Lautner is not the right way).

Werewolves first started to show up in folk stories to explain serial killings. The first recorded Werewolf sighting took place around the countryside of German town Colongne and Bedburg in 1591.A few people cornered a large wolf and set their dogs upon it. They started to pierce it with sharp sticks and spears. The wolf did not run away or tried to protect itself, instead it stood up and turned out to be a middle-aged man he was Peter Stubbe from the same village. Peter Stubbes continued to kill, rape and eat his victims until he was caught and tried. He was disposed in a fate worse than really anything I care to write here.

Werewolves have a part of almost every culture on the planet, here are a few...
American Indians: limikkin or skin walkers.
Canada: bearwalker
Chili: The chonchon shapeshifter is a witch that transforms into a vulture.
Ethiopia, Morocco and Tanzania: The boudas is a sorcerer/blacksmith that changes into a werehyena. It often wears an ornament from its human form by which it may be recognized.
France: loup-garou is prevalent in France with the Beast of Gevaudan being the most famous documented case. Then there is the bisclavret which is a werewolf that cannot return to human form unless it can put its clothing back on.
Finland: ihmissusi
Greece: vrykolaka is a catchall word for werewolf, vampire or sorcerer. The word lycanthropy, from the ancient werewolf-king Lycaeon, originated here.
Haiti: loup-garou can change into anything, both plant and animal.
Iceland: A hamrammr (from old Icelandic literature) is a werecreature that shifts into the form of the animal it has most recently eaten. Its strength increases with each animal that it consumes. The current (and more correct) word for werewolf is varulfur.
Ireland & Scotland: The selkies are seals that take off their skins to become human. Dark-haired Celts may have their geneology explained via the selkies. Selkies are helpful creatures who watch over fishermen.
Japan: The most popular werecreatures in Japanese folklore is the kitsune (fox) and the tanuki or mijina (raccoon dog or badger). The kitsune is usually a female, and the tanuki, a male. Collectively, shapeshifters are called heng
Mexico: nahaul is a werecreature that can turn into a wolf, large cat, eagle or bull.
Native Americans: Many different types of "skin walkers such as the Navajo Indians' skinwalkers, the Mai-Coh and the. Mohawk Indians limikkin.
Scandinavia: The varulv much prefers beer to human flesh. Scandinavia is also home to the berserker (bearskin). There is also the ulfheobar (wolfskin), which is usually lumped in with berserker.
United States: Native Americans have many different types of "skin walkers" (see above). There are wererats that are particularly rampant around Pennsylvania. The wererat skulks around at night, and prefers carrots with ranch dressing to human flesh.

How to spot a werewolf:
*Break away clothes
*Hairy palms and/or unibrow
*A propensity for riding on the tops of vans.
*Being an American....in London.
*A deathly fear of Coors lite.

They have also popped up in Hollywood and these are my favorite werewolf movies.

All of the Ginger Snaps movies

An American Werewolf in London

Dog Soldiers

The Wolfman

So I am off to see the remake of The Wolfman with my fingers crossed!

Why Jeffrey Combs Is So Awesome

Jeffrey Combs is one of the greatest character actors of our time...He could be compared to Claude Rains, Walter Brennan, or even M. Emmet Walsh. Jeffrey has been terribly prolific acting in more films and shows that anyone would even notice. He pops up constantly with me always asking, "is that Jeffrey Combs", and it always is.
I first saw Jeffrey in Re-Animator, this is also the time I discovered H.P. Lovecraft, I loved his humor and horror. Re-Animator is the story of Herbert West; a Swiss medical student who has perfected a serum for regenerating life into dead things...or even parts of dead things. But a corrupt superior, Dr. Carl Hill, assumes control of West's experiments using the stuff on his own severed head and body. West struggles to control the now out-of-control effects of the serum. This is the first and my personal favorite H.P. Lovecraft film I saw featuring Jeffrey Combs.

Other H.P. Lovecraft* stories featuring Jeffrey Combs...From Beyond, Necronomicon, Lurking Fear, Castle Freak(another personal favorite),The Dunwich Horror, and of course the sequels of Re-Animator: Bride of Re-Animator, Beyond Re-Animator, and to come House of Re-Animator.

* H.P. Lovecraft(August 20, 1890 – March 15, 1937) was an American author of horror, fantasy, and science fiction, known then simply as weird fiction.

Along with his collaboration with Lovecraft's stories he has had a long working relationship with Stuart Gordon. Stuart Gordon is one of the more interesting horror directors, he tends to bring classic horror into the present. Jeffery and Gordon have worked on Re-animator, Castle Freak, The Black Cat, The Pit and The Pendulum, From Beyond, and now a stage show Nevermore featuring Jeffrey as Edgar Allen Poe.

Since I did claim Jeffrey Combs to be one of the greatest character actors of our time I suppose I should back that up...In film or TV I'm sure you have seen him, but never even noticed.

Pit and The Pendulum

Return to House on Haunted Hill

Abominable

Frighteners

Star Trek

Well, I know this was far too nerdy, but there are so many reasons to think that Jeffrey Combs is awesome. I hope I have inspired you to check out a few of his films or maybe just be able to recognize Jeffrey Combs when you see him.

Remakes...There Has To Be More Ideas Out There

Friday the 13, Nightmare on Elm Street, Piranha, Halloween, My Bloody Valentine, I am Legend, The Invasion, The Crazies, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Last House on the Left, Reanimator, Scream(and the entire franchise), The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Rosemary's Baby, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Motel Hell, Prom Night, Day of the Dead, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, COME ON!

With so many young talented film makers out there why does Hollywood need to remake films that were good in the first place.

Also just because you make a film 3D doesn't mean that you don't have to make it good.

Songs That I Am Seriously Driving People Crazy With

In no particular order...
